What Is the Wegovy® Tablets Programme?

Our Wegovy® Tablets Programme is a clinically supervised weight management service combining prescription treatment, health monitoring, lifestyle guidance and ongoing professional support.

Wegovy® tablets contain semaglutide and provide a once-daily, needle-free alternative to weekly weight loss injections. They may be prescribed to eligible adults alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Many people find it difficult to lose weight despite trying different diets, exercise plans and lifestyle changes. Weight can be influenced by appetite, hormones, metabolism, stress, sleep and underlying health conditions, making long-term weight management more complex than simply eating less and moving more.

Before treatment is prescribed, you will complete a clinical consultation and may be asked to have blood tests. This helps our healthcare team assess your overall health, determine whether Wegovy® tablets are suitable and create a personalised treatment plan.

Your treatment plan will be based on factors including your medical history, current medicines, BMI, blood test results, weight loss goals and overall clinical assessment.

Why Is Maintaining a Healthy Weight Important?

Maintaining a healthy weight is about more than appearance. Carrying excess weight can affect your energy, confidence, mobility and overall health and wellbeing.

Being overweight or living with obesity may increase the risk of:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease and stroke
  • High cholesterol
  • Sleep apnoea
  • Joint pain and reduced mobility
  • Reduced energy levels and fatigue

Even modest weight loss may provide meaningful health benefits. Losing around 5–10% of your starting body weight may help improve blood pressure, blood sugar control, mobility, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

Why Can Weight Loss Be Difficult?

Many people lose weight initially but find it difficult to maintain their results. Successful weight management involves more than willpower alone. Appetite, hormones, metabolism, stress, lifestyle and underlying health conditions can all influence body weight.

Common challenges include:

  • Hunger and food cravings
  • Difficulty controlling portion sizes
  • Emotional eating
  • Busy lifestyles and limited time
  • Regaining weight after dieting

A clinically supervised programme can provide the structure and support needed to overcome these barriers. Where appropriate, Wegovy® tablets may be used alongside lifestyle guidance and regular monitoring to support sustainable progress.

How Do Wegovy® Tablets Work?

Wegovy® tablets contain semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Semaglutide works in a similar way to a natural hormone released after eating and acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation.

Wegovy® tablets may help to:

  • Reduce hunger and food cravings
  • Help you feel fuller for longer
  • Support better portion control
  • Make it easier to maintain healthier eating habits
  • Support weight loss and long-term weight management

The tablets should be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet, increased physical activity and ongoing clinical support.

Treatment suitability will be assessed during your consultation and review of your health information and blood test results.

How Do I Take Wegovy® Tablets?

Wegovy® is taken as one tablet once a day. To help your body absorb the medicine correctly, it is important to follow the administration instructions carefully.

  • Take the tablet on an empty stomach after fasting for at least eight hours.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a small amount of water, up to approximately 120 ml.
  • Do not split, crush or chew the tablet.
  • Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines.
  • Take only one Wegovy® tablet each day.

Eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines too soon after your dose may reduce the amount of semaglutide your body absorbs.

Your clinician will explain exactly how and when to take your treatment.

Wegovy® Tablet Dose Schedule

Treatment usually begins with a low dose that is gradually increased. This helps your body adjust to the medication and may reduce the likelihood of digestive side effects.

  • 1.5 mg once daily: Starting dose for the first month.
  • 4 mg once daily: Usually taken for at least one month.
  • 9 mg once daily: Usually taken for at least one month.
  • 25 mg once daily: Recommended maintenance dose.

Each dose level is normally taken for a minimum of one month. Your clinician may keep you on a lower dose for longer if needed.

Never take multiple lower-strength tablets to create a higher dose unless specifically instructed by your prescriber. Wegovy® tablets should always be taken as one tablet per day.

Ongoing Support Throughout Your Weight Loss Journey

Successful weight management is about more than achieving short-term results. Our programme includes regular follow-up reviews, clinical monitoring and continued support to help you maintain your progress.

During your programme, we will monitor your weight, treatment response, side effects and general wellbeing. Your treatment plan and dosage may be adjusted where clinically appropriate.

Follow-up blood tests may be recommended approximately every three months to help ensure your treatment remains safe and suitable. Additional charges may apply.

Whether you have questions about taking your tablets, managing side effects, nutrition, activity or your next steps, our healthcare team will be available to support you.

Could You Benefit From Wegovy® Tablets?

Wegovy® tablets may be suitable for adults who:

  • Have a BMI of 30 or above.
  • Have a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related health condition.
  • Have struggled to lose weight through healthy eating and physical activity alone.
  • Frequently regain weight after dieting.
  • Experience persistent hunger or food cravings.
  • Find it difficult to manage portion sizes.
  • Have a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes.
  • Have sleep apnoea or reduced mobility associated with excess weight.
  • Would prefer a daily tablet rather than a weekly injection.
  • Would like to find out whether prescription weight loss treatment is suitable.

Eligibility is not based on BMI alone. Your clinician will also assess your medical history, current medicines, previous treatments and general health before prescribing Wegovy® tablets.

Wegovy® Tablets Treatment

Wegovy® tablets are a prescription-only weight management treatment containing semaglutide. Unlike traditional Wegovy® injections, the tablet is swallowed once daily and does not require needles.

The treatment may help reduce appetite, decrease food cravings and help you feel fuller after eating. This can make it easier to reduce your calorie intake and maintain healthier habits.

Potential benefits may include:

  • A once-daily, needle-free treatment option
  • Reduced hunger and food cravings
  • Improved portion control
  • Support for weight loss and weight maintenance
  • Personalised clinical monitoring and ongoing support

Results vary between patients and cannot be guaranteed. Treatment works best when combined with healthy eating, regular physical activity and long-term lifestyle changes.

Are Wegovy® Tablets Right for Me?

Wegovy® tablets may be an appropriate option for eligible patients who want medical weight management support without using a weekly injection.

Following your consultation, health assessment and any required blood tests, our clinical team will determine whether this treatment is suitable based on your BMI, medical history, current medicines, overall health and individual goals.

Your Health and Safety Come First

Our focus is not simply on helping you lose weight. We are committed to supporting your overall health and wellbeing through careful assessments, regular monitoring and personalised clinical care throughout your programme.

You should tell your clinician about all health conditions and medicines before starting treatment. Wegovy® tablets are not suitable for everyone and should only be taken when prescribed following an appropriate clinical assessment.

How It Works

How the Wegovy tablets programme works

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are Wegovy® tablets?

Wegovy® tablets are a prescription weight management treatment containing semaglutide. They are taken once daily and are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

2. Are Wegovy® tablets the same as Wegovy® injections?

Both treatments contain semaglutide, but they are taken differently. Wegovy® tablets are swallowed once daily, while Wegovy® injections are normally administered once weekly. The strengths and dosing schedules are not interchangeable.

3. How do Wegovy® tablets work?

Semaglutide acts on receptors involved in appetite regulation. It can help you feel fuller, reduce hunger and decrease food cravings, helping you eat less and work towards sustainable weight loss.

4. What doses are available?

The Wegovy® tablet dose schedule includes 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg and 25 mg once daily. Treatment usually begins at 1.5 mg and is gradually increased, with at least one month at each dose level.

5. How should I take Wegovy® tablets?

Take one tablet on an empty stomach after fasting for at least eight hours. Swallow it whole with a small amount of water and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines.

6. Can I crush or split the tablet?

No. The tablet should be swallowed whole. It should not be split, crushed or chewed because this may affect how the medicine is absorbed.

7. How much weight could I lose?

Results vary between individuals. Clinical research has shown that Wegovy® tablets can support meaningful weight loss when used consistently alongside reduced calorie intake and increased physical activity. Individual results cannot be guaranteed.

8. How quickly will I notice results?

Some patients notice changes in appetite during the early stages of treatment. Weight loss usually develops gradually over several months as the dose increases and healthier habits are maintained.

9. Who is eligible for treatment?

Wegovy® tablets may be prescribed to adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related health condition. A full clinical assessment is required before treatment can be prescribed.

10. Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can access our private Wegovy® Tablets Programme directly without a GP referral, subject to a clinical assessment.

11. Can I complete the assessment online?

Yes. You can start by completing our online consultation. Our clinical team will review your information and explain the next steps.

12. How often are follow-up appointments?

Follow-up reviews are generally arranged regularly during treatment, particularly while your dose is being increased. Your clinician will confirm the appropriate review schedule for you.

13. Do I need blood tests before starting?

Blood tests may be required before treatment to assess your health and help determine whether Wegovy® tablets are appropriate. Your clinician will explain which checks are needed.

14. Why might blood tests be required?

Blood tests can identify underlying health concerns and provide useful information about areas such as blood sugar, liver function, kidney function and cholesterol. They can also help your clinician monitor your health during treatment.

15. What happens if my results show a health concern?

Our clinical team will explain your results and recommend appropriate next steps. Treatment may be delayed, adjusted or considered unsuitable depending on the findings.

16. Will I need blood tests during treatment?

Follow-up blood tests may be recommended approximately every three months, depending on your health and treatment plan. Additional charges may apply.

17. What are the most common side effects?

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, stomach pain, bloating and reduced appetite. These effects are often more noticeable when treatment begins or the dose is increased.

18. How can I manage digestive side effects?

Eating smaller meals, avoiding rich or fatty foods and drinking enough fluids may help. Contact our clinical team if side effects are severe, persistent or affecting your ability to eat and drink.

19. Are there any serious side effects?

Serious side effects are uncommon but can occur. Seek urgent medical advice if you experience severe and persistent abdominal pain, sudden changes to your vision, signs of a severe allergic reaction or symptoms that cause concern.

20. What happens if I miss a dose?

Skip the missed dose and take your next tablet the following day at the usual time. Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed dose.

21. Can I take Wegovy® tablets with other medicines?

Wegovy® tablets may be suitable alongside many medicines, but semaglutide can affect digestion and the timing of other oral treatments. Tell your clinician about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter treatments and supplements you use.

22. Can I take Wegovy® tablets if I have diabetes?

Some people with Type 2 diabetes may be suitable, but treatment must be carefully assessed. The risk of low blood sugar may increase when semaglutide is used with insulin or certain diabetes medicines.

23. Can I take Wegovy® tablets if I have high blood pressure?

High blood pressure does not automatically prevent treatment. Your clinician will review your readings, medical history and current medication before deciding whether Wegovy® tablets are suitable.

24. Can I take Wegovy® tablets during pregnancy?

No. Wegovy® tablets should not be used during pregnancy. Semaglutide should normally be stopped at least two months before a planned pregnancy. Speak to your clinician about pregnancy planning before treatment.

25. Can I take Wegovy® tablets while breastfeeding?

No. Wegovy® tablets should not be used while breastfeeding. Your clinician can discuss alternative weight management options with you.

26. Do Wegovy® tablets affect contraception?

Semaglutide is not expected to directly reduce the effectiveness of oral contraception. However, vomiting or severe diarrhoea may prevent the contraceptive pill from being absorbed properly. Follow the missed-pill guidance supplied with your contraception and speak to our clinical team if you are unsure.

27. Can I switch from Wegovy® injections to tablets?

Some patients may be able to switch from Wegovy® injections to tablets. Switching must only take place following a clinical review and personalised instructions from your prescriber.

28. Can I switch from Mounjaro® to Wegovy® tablets?

A switch may be possible following a clinical assessment. Your clinician will review your current dose, treatment response, side effects and medical history before recommending a safe transition plan.

29. Will I regain weight if I stop treatment?

Weight regain can occur after stopping treatment, particularly if appetite increases and lifestyle changes are not maintained. Our programme focuses on helping you develop sustainable habits to support long-term weight management.

30. What lifestyle changes should I make?

Wegovy® tablets work best alongside a balanced, reduced-calorie diet, regular physical activity, good sleep and sustainable eating habits. Our team will provide guidance to help you make realistic long-term changes.

31. How much does the programme cost?

Prices depend on the prescribed tablet strength, treatment stage, consultations and any required blood tests. Complete the online consultation for current pricing and treatment information.

32. Is the treatment clinically supervised?

Yes. All treatment requests are clinically assessed, and patients receive ongoing monitoring and professional support throughout the programme.
